Would we help the economy faster by quitting our jobs and shutting down all business?
If we were to all just get on board with the stimulus plan, by using as much of the benefits offered in the plan, won't it spur a economic revival much soon? I employ about 20 people and think we should do our part. Quit working collect welfare,go to college on the pell grants,food stamps, dig ditches ect,ect, ect. Honest question wont that help to stimulate our country?
I understand that you're suggesting by us all quiting our jobs and receiving unemployment benefit this will stimulate spending in the economy and hence quicken the end of the crisis? I am a Brit so do not know much about this US fiscal stimulus. However, I'm pretty sure most of this is not going to be spent on unemployment benefits but rather on investment, which is, after all, what determines the level of employment in the economy.
If we were to go ahead with your plan then when we receive out benefits and wish to spend our money, where are we going to spend it exactly? After all there will not be many people working and businesses open making goods and services for us to spend it on. Those who cannot spend their benefits will have two options; to import from abroad or save. Either of these options will not help the economy at all and will only make it worse. So all that your crazy idea would do is to leave the economy at a lower level of employment and output and the country in a complete and utter mess.
